Why Reviews Matter More than Ever in 2026

Reviews have always influenced trust and clicks. But in the last couple of years, they’ve started to play a more direct role in search visibility and rankings.

A solid stream of good Google reviews helps companies:

  • Show up in Google search results. Google’s algorithm weighs reviews more heavily than ever, and it’s about more than the number of stars. Relevancy (keywords within reviews), number, and recency of reviews are all taken into account.
  • Build trust to boost conversions. Positive reviews build trust – a key differentiator in a time when 53% of consumers don’t trust AI search results and do their due diligence when researching companies. Highly-rated firms who share reviews on their website often see better conversion rates.
  • Get recommended by LLMs. In my searches, ChatGPT consistently recommends firms with a high number of positive reviews. When I asked for “the best financial advisor in Lafayette, Colorado,” it returned only five-star-rated companies – and even prioritized firms outside Lafayette with 20+ five-star reviews over local firms with fewer ratings.
  • Get seen in local service ads.  LSAs take three things into account when deciding which companies to highlight: reviews, radius, and responsiveness. So even if you are the only financial advisor in your city, without reviews, you may struggle to show up in local service ads.

Compliance Updates Make It Easier to Collect Reviews

Recognizing how much investors rely on online feedback when choosing a financial advisor, the SEC’s Marketing Rule now allows advisory firms to use testimonials/reviews as part of their marketing. However, firms must follow strict SEC and regulatory requirements to remain compliant, including:

  • Reviews must be genuine. Clients can’t be coached on what to say, incentivized improperly, or pressured into leaving only positive feedback.
  • No cherry-picking desirable reviews. If you choose to promote your Google reviews, you have to present all of them and avoid selective sharing.
  • Strict disclosure guidelines. Any use of reviews must include disclosures clearly stating how reviews are collected, among other criteria.

Despite updated compliance guidelines, many financial advisors still avoid asking for reviews out of caution – a decision that puts them at a disadvantage against competitors. Even two or three reviews a month can significantly increase online visibility and authority when done the right way.

At Digital Dynamo, we know how to stay compliant with financial advisor marketing. We know the SEC’s guidelines, work with your compliance officer, and have an on-staff compliance professional that keeps the process in SEC compliance.

Case Study: How a Financial Advisory Firm’s Visibility Skyrocketed After Building Reviews

Financial advisors working together around a table.

1. The Problem

When a financial advisory firm came to us last year for financial advisor digital marketing services, they had only one Google review and were struggling with online visibility.

2. The Solution

Alongside our on-page SEO work, we recommended implementing a compliance-approved reviews-building process. The client was initially hesitant due to compliance concerns, but ultimately chose to move forward with a structured process.

3. The Result

The client earned 24 new Google reviews in a single month. Within two months, their visibility increased nearly 9x one target location (from 1.42% to 13.75%) and more than 20x improvement in another (0.4% to 8.56%)  – well before the full impact of the website optimizations would typically be expected.

Reviews provided fast and early momentum, strengthening trust and authority while supporting the success of long-term SEO efforts.

Conclusion

With recent changes in Google’s algorithm and the rise in AI-driven search, online reviews have become one of the most important ways to strengthen online visibility and authority.

Updated compliance guidelines make it possible for financial advisors to collect and share reviews, but it has to be done carefully, with a strict documentation process and compliance safeguards in place.

If you want to grow your firm’s visibility without risking compliance issues, Digital Dynamo can help you implement a compliance-approved process that is safe and works long-term. Schedule a free consultation to learn more.
