Meta’s Andromeda update, which completed its global rollout in October 2025, changed the way paid ads are shown in Meta’s ecosystem. Using AI-driven matching, now the creative parts of an ad outweigh targeting. Read this article by paid ads expert Ricardo Salas to learn how you should start handling your ads to please the Andromeda update.

What is Andromeda?

Andromeda is a revamp of Meta’s rules-based ad retrieval system. Previously, Meta ads were delivered to users based on audience targeting and segmentation.

Andromeda instead uses AI-driven matching to match user interest, search patterns, and engagement (saves and likes) to creative. This AI-driven matching allows Meta to filter through millions of ads and find which ones resonate the most with a particular user. The idea is that AI-driven matching will increase impact, results, and improve the ads experience for users.

Andromeda’s intelligence doesn’t just ask who should be shown this ad – it now decides which particular ad this person should see.

How does this affect my Meta Ads strategy?

Instead of leveraging audience targeting for relevance and impact, Meta is now focusing on the creative of ads – and how those ads resonate with users – to guide its targeting. Meta calls this “ads-first optimization.”

But in order for Andromeda to understand which ads to serve up to users, it needs massive amounts of creatives and angles. Long gone are the days of A/B testing micro-changes like different background colors or taglines. Meaningful shifts in creative angles like:

  • Promotions
  • Before-and-after stories
  • Testimonials
  • Educational content
  • Problem-solution narratives

That are delivered through formats like:

  • Carousels
  • static images
  • Reels
  • Short-form video and long-form video

…are now essential. This variety gives Andromeda the breadth of signals it needs to identify what resonates, and uncover performance leverage within the new system.

Andromeda Uses Broad Targeting Over Hypersegmentation

Why broad targeting?

The simple answer is to provide an environment that promotes flexibility to quickly self-optimize and stabilize. The more chances the system has to dynamically test and learn from impressions, link clicks, form completions, likes, and shares, the faster the system can find the users that will produce the results you are looking for. Detailed, niche, and super refined audiences will lead to higher CPMs (cost for 1,000 ad impressions), longer optimization timelines, and fewer signals from which the system can learn.

How Should Advertisers Proceed with their Meta Ads?

1. DO NOT Turn off Your Current Campaigns

First and foremost, do not rush to shut off your legacy campaigns. If existing campaigns are still generating meaningful results, allow them to continue while closely monitoring performance. The best approach is a gradual transition – introducing new, adjacent campaigns built using the Andromeda methodology and shifting investment as the older structures naturally lose efficiency.

2. Try Surveys to Get Inspiration for your Creative

While time-consuming and potentially costly, a well-executed market survey can be helpful when developing messaging angles and translating them into different creative formats. When done correctly, surveys reveal what problems your product or service solves, why customers chose you over competitors, how they perceive value, and what tradeoffs matter most. Each of these insights can become an immediate, high-quality creative angle. Instead of A/B testing random concepts to discover what resonates, you begin by testing angles you already know resonate. You’ll shift the optimization from which message works to which format delivers it most effectively.

3. Create More Content to Test, and aim for Continuous Improvement

Perhaps the most important shift will be a revamp of your creative design process. Volume and continuous improvement should be the theme of that process. Given the need for large volumes of creative, maintaining a steady stream of ads that are not only new but continuously improved based on performance metrics is essential. Consistent iteration allows the system to learn faster, strengthens optimization signals, and ensures your creative remains competitive within Andromeda’s ad selection environment.

Conclusion

The Meta advertising landscape we knew, one built on strict audience rules and granular controls, has been transformed almost overnight by the roll-out of Andromeda. Thriving in this new system requires embracing adaptability just as innately as we do in life: experimenting, iterating, and allowing AI to guide what once required manual precision.

The good news is, this new update gives you license to experiment. Try different creative angles you were too afraid to test. Get innovative. Get weird. Be unexpected. Try to make something great, and not just something you think will sell. Allow empathy to affect your marketing ideas. You’re now allowed to take a big swing because Andromeda is going to test it no matter what – and that big swing might just be a home run with some people. But you would have otherwise never known were it not for this mandate to try something new.
